United Way of Greater Knoxville’s ‘The Big Give’ begins Giving Tuesday fundraising blitz

November 27, 2023

United Way of Greater Knoxville (UWGK) will launch “The Big Give,” a dynamic 24-hour online giving campaign, on Nov. 28 to coincide with Giving Tuesday. Annually, the event galvanizes support for local nonprofits. The event starts at 12:01 a.m. tonight at biggiveknox.org.

In 2022, The Big Give achieved remarkable success, raising nearly $300,000 for 89 participating local nonprofits. This year, with the generous support of First Horizon Bank as presenting sponsor, UWGK is preparing for an even more impactful event.

“The Big Give is a day of transformation that unites our community and showcases our incredible, collective power to make a difference,” said Matt Ryerson, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Knoxville. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the participating nonprofits, whose year-round efforts make East Tennessee an exceptional place to call home. I encourage everyone to find a cause that they deeply care about and donate during The Big Give!”

Giving is easy. Simply search for an organization to support in the website’s search bar. Donors also can find their friends who are fundraising for a nonprofit and give from their profile page. These personalized pages give supporters the opportunity to describe why the organization is important to them and display photos from the nonprofit or of their involvement.

During The Big Give, organizations can earn extra funds based on the timing and amount of donations received. Donors are encouraged to follow the organizations they care about most on social media and set notification alerts so they know when they can help the nonprofits unlock additional support.

“We are proud to partner with United Way of Greater Knoxville in presenting The Big Give. This annual fundraiser is widely known for good reason – its impact is far-reaching and directly felt,” said Dave Miller, chief operating officer of First Horizon’s regional bank. “Together, we can elevate the spectacular work of our local nonprofits and create lasting change in our community.”

“The Big Give exemplifies the spirit of generosity and unity that defines Knoxville,” City of Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon said. “Let’s come together to support those who uplift our city every day!”

The Big Give only happens one day a year. To support United Way of Greater Knoxville and the more than 200 nonprofits it helps fund all year, give at uwgk.org/donate.
