KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 28, 2013) Being able to call our families and loved ones is something we shouldn’t take for granted. For those who do not have this luxury, U.S. Cellular continued its commitment to the community by providing free phone calls at the annual Thanksgiving Day meal hosted by Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) in downtown Knoxville.

“At U.S. Cellular, we’re committed to bringing family and friends together,” said Tom Catani, U.S. Cellular Southeast region vice president. “That’s why it’s particularly meaningful for us to help connect people with their loved ones during such a special time of the year.”

U.S. Cellular provided free local and long-distance calls to homeless individuals and those in need as part of the KARM annual community meal, which attracts nearly 1,500 homeless or hungry people. U.S. Cellular associates and their family members volunteered at the event to assist attendees with making free phone calls to family and friends across the country on Thanksgiving Day. The company also provided the phones to use.

“We’ve been providing free calls at KARM on Thanksgiving for about 10 years now, and we love to see people overjoyed to talk with someone they care about – and possibly haven’t been able to talk with in a long time,” Catani said. “It’s very rewarding, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to serve the community in this way.”

A total of about 15 U.S. Cellular associates and family members volunteered at the Thanksgiving Day event.
