The Swag again earns ‘World’s Best’ honors by Travel & Leisure readers

July 12, 2019

The Swag, a luxury all-inclusive resort nestled atop the Smoky Mountains in Waynesville, North Carolina, again has been named to Travel & Leisure’s Top 10 Resort Hotels in the South as part of the magazine’s World’s Best Awards 2019, landing at No. 3 on the list.

“To again be part of this Top 10 list is an honor, and the support from our loyal guests is very encouraging,” said Annie Colquitt, owner and innkeeper at The Swag with her husband, David Colquitt. “Being named among the top three in such a respected group of resorts is incredible.”

Travel & Leisure opens an online reader survey each year for entries for the World’s Best Awards to determine the top islands, resorts, cities, hotels, cruise lines and airports around the world. The resort category includes ratings for facilities, location, service, food and overall value.

For the second year in a row, The Swag has earned the No. 3 spot on the list of the best resort hotels in the South, with such prestigious company as Old Edwards Inn & Spa in North Carolina at 10th and Blackberry Farm in Tennessee at fourth.

Travel & Leisure noted that The Swag provides a “rustic sensibility … with rough-hewn wood furnishings, handmade quilts and stone fireplaces that keep the place cozy year-round. One voter likened it to ‘camp for adults,’ saying that the property ‘has all the amenities you’d want to take advantage of.’”

The Swag, situated on 250 acres, is now open for its 38th season. The Colquitts spent the off-season sprucing up the resort, while keeping the cozy and luxurious feel that keep guests returning year after year. Its award-winning accommodations, all-inclusive fine dining, carefully curated special events and spectacular mountain views at an elevation of 5,000 feet make The Swag a unique and special experience.

Guests not staying at the resort can make reservations at The Swag’s restaurant or buy a gourmet picnic lunch to take on one of the many hiking trails on the property or in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, which borders The Swag.
