Today, Thompson Cancer Survival Center and Covenant Health announced that SUBWAY restaurants of Knoxville will become the new title sponsor of the annual Race Against Cancer. The 5K race held each fall in downtown Knoxville benefits Thompson Cancer Survival Center.

“The Subway Race Against Cancer is an asset for the community because all of the funds raised by participants and supporters stay here to support health care needs in East Tennessee. This makes it all the more impressive that an outstanding organization like the SUBWAY restaurants of Knoxville would sponsor the race,” said Tony Spezia, president and CEO of Covenant Health.

“SUBWAY is well-known for promoting active and healthy lifestyles, which supports our mission of improving the quality of life through better health and makes this a tremendous partnership for Covenant Health and Thompson Cancer Survival Center.”

Subway Race Against Cancer

The announcement was made by senior executives of Covenant Health at a SUBWAY restaurant location in West Knoxville. Since its inception in 1993, the race has raised more than $5 million for cancer education and care in East Tennessee. Funds raised by Race Against Cancer supporters and participants have allowed thousands of medically underserved individuals to receive lifesaving screenings and information each year.

“Our decision to sponsor the Race Against Cancer was made much simpler by the outstanding support of the community on this longstanding tradition,” said John Dell, SUBWAY restaurants development agent for East Tennessee and a local owner. “All SUBWAY restaurants are locally owned and operated so it’s important to us to support organizations that are working to improve the quality of life for members of our community. We are proud to partner with Thompson Cancer Survival Center.”

In the weeks leading up to the 5K, all SUBWAY restaurants in Knoxville and surrounding areas will collect donations through the SUBWAY Cares program. The money raised will be donated to the Thompson Survival Cancer Center.

The Subway Race Against Cancer will be held Nov. 8, 2015, at World’s Fair Park.  For more information, visit
