Job seekers have an opportunity to meet with nearly two dozen recruiters in one stop this week at South College.
On Thursday, May 14, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., the educational institution will host a career fair for its students and the community on campus at 3904 Lonas Drive.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in Knox County was 5.1 percent in February 2015. South College wants to see that number decrease.
“Looking for employment can be a full-time job, and we want to help make it easier,” said Gary Taylor, South College career services coordinator. “It’s what our Career Fair is all about, and we hope local job seekers will be on campus Thursday to speak with recruiters.”
Human resource officers and recruiters from nearly two dozen companies will be on-site to review resumes and discuss employment opportunities with attendees. The representatives actively are seeking individuals in health care, business, legal studies and other industries.
Taylor encouraged attendees to come prepared with extra copies of their resumes and to be dressed appropriately.
“Treat this career fair and any other opportunity like you would a job interview,” Taylor said. “It’s helpful to have a brief description you can share about your work experience and the type of opportunity you’re looking for now.”
Companies participating in the job fair include Accounting Principals, Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley, Cellular Sales of Knoxville, City of Knoxville Civil Service Office, Clayton Homes, Home Watch CareGivers, Knoxville Police Department, MedicalSolutions, Pilot Flying J, Resource Accounting, RetireNDignity, StaffSource, Summit Medical Group, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee National Guard, University of Tennessee, University Physicians’ Association, US Foods, U.S. Navy, Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance and Wellmont Health System.
