South College Nashville Physician Assistant Program earns accreditation

August 3, 2019

The South College Nashville Physician Assistant Program has earned accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) for its master’s level program in Physician Assistant Studies.

The commission is the accrediting agency that protects the interests of the public and physician assistant (PA) profession by defining standards for education and evaluating programs in the United States to ensure compliance with those standards.

“Our rigorous curriculum paired with the attentiveness of our faculty to the students and their educational interests will prepare our graduates for a career as a physician assistant,” said Nick South, president of South College in Nashville. “This ARC-PA accredited program broadens our prospective student base, and we look forward to following the progress of this special first class in the Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies program.”

The accreditation marks the official kickoff of the program, and 30 students are expected to be in the initial class, which starts in October.

South College’s Nashville campus is located at 616 Marriott Drive, just north of Interstate 40.

In addition to Nashville, South College also offers an existing and accredited Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies program at its Knoxville, Tennessee, campus. For more information about South College, visit https://www.south.edu.

About ARC-PA Accreditation

ARC-PA provides the following statement about this accreditation: The ARC-PA has granted Accreditation-Provisional status to the South College-Nashville Physician Assistant Program sponsored by South College-Nashville.

Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.

Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.
