South College Asheville adds Gindoff as director of Physician Assistant program

South College Asheville has hired Dr. Alan Gindoff as program director for the Physician Assistant (PA) program.

South College, a multi-campus institution founded in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1882, offers 100-plus programs and concentrations taught at eight physical campuses and online.

“Dr. Gindoff brings a wealth of experience as a healthcare professional, educator and leader,” Asheville Campus President Dr. Danielle Kwasnik said. “His multifaceted contributions to the healthcare and education sectors reflect a passion for excellence and a commitment to shaping the future of physician assistant practice, and we’re glad to have him at the helm of the Physician Assistant program.”

Gindoff earned a Physician Assistant certificate from Wake Forest University, Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska and a Doctor of Health Science from Nova Southeastern University.

He has extensive experience as a PA program director, including serving as chair and program director of the department of PA studies at East Carolina University from 2012-2023; and as the associate director of academic affairs and director of clinical education for the PA program at University of Florida from 2009-2012. His clinical background includes primary and urgent care, emergency medicine and family practice.

He is actively engaged in organizations including the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants and Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA), where he is an instructor for the organization’s workshop for new program directors.

The PA program launched in Asheville in January 2023 and just welcomed its second cohort in January 2024. Students in the program are pursuing a Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies. The 27-month program includes 15 months in classroom and lab settings followed by eight clinical learning rotations in the last 12 months.
