Premier Knoxville-based agency rebrands as MoxCar Marketing + Communications

July 5, 2023

Marking the one-year anniversary of when they purchased the company from its principals, Moxley Carmichael co-owners and partners have rebranded the 31-year-old premier public relations agency as MoxCar Marketing + Communications.

“MoxCar is a natural evolution of the brand, representing a nod to our foundation, building upon the social media moniker by which we are known already and moving toward the future as we continue to grow our modern marketing solutions and integrated communications strategies,” MoxCar CEO Lauren Miller said. “It’s been an interesting and rewarding journey to endeavor to put our own company through the rigors of a rebrand that typically we’re executing for clients. Our brand needs to reflect the quality and professionalism and values that our team and clients expect of us and that we deliver on, and it needs to embody this new, forward-looking chapter of our company’s growth.”

MoxCar Marketing + Communications Owners/Partners: Chief Operating Officer Scott Bird, Chief Creative Officer Charley Sexton, Chief Financial Officer Shaun Fulco and Chief Executive Officer Lauren Miller.

MoxCar co-owners include Miller, Chief Operating Officer Scott Bird, Chief Financial Officer Shaun Fulco and Chief Creative Officer Charley Sexton. MoxCar will continue to offer the same comprehensive, full-service marketing and communications services, including public, media, community and government relations; branding; research; graphic design; advertising; digital and social media; website development; internal communications; special events; and more.

The MoxCar rebrand comes with a new tagline: Let’s create magic. The tag reflects the team’s enthusiasm to work together with clients to pursue the dreams and outside-the-box solutions that delight, charm and enchant. Listening is paramount in MoxCar’s collaborative environment, where expertise abounds and generates innovative ideas and excellent outcomes. It focuses on breaking silos, fostering creativity, captivating audiences and getting results that wow.

“The new logo and brand identity is an intentional progression and modernization of our brand,” said Sexton, the company’s chief creative officer. “Our new mark reflects the core of our service offering as branding, marketing and public relations professionals, as well as our long-earned expertise and our ever-growing capabilities. We build brands and the campaigns and communications strategies that make those brands known.”

The rebranding includes a new website, as well as complete updates of signage, social media graphics and community/sponsorship listings.

While the launch of the rebrand is a notable and public milestone in the advancement of the company under new ownership, the team has been working to define and refine the MoxCar brand identity, services and culture over the past 12 months.

This starts with the agency’s guiding principles, titled the MoxCar Maxims:

  1. Do the right things the right way.
  2. Create with curiosity and enthusiasm.
  3. Love to communicate.
  4. Respect all.
  5. Celebrate together.

“These five actions lead us in all of our work, service and decision-making in relations to our team, clients and community,” Fulco said. “Our team of 18 has rallied around the MoxCar Maxims and how they define and differentiate our company, guide us and provide us with a road map of how we will make a meaningful impact for each other, the organizations we serve and the people and communities they serve – as well as this East Tennessee region that we all love.”

Alongside the external brand, MoxCar has committed resources to enhance internal programs and resources to benefit current and future team members, ranging from completing a total office renovation to hosting an off-site team retreat. New initiatives include MoxCar Milestones to recognize and reward employees on their milestone work anniversaries every five years, and MoxCar also makes a $100 donation in each team member’s name to the charity of their choice on their birthday.

MoxCar continues to grow, hiring new team members in the past year, making promotions and recruiting additional employees. The agency also has added new clients and wants to continue to expand that roster. It has started offering small business packages for start-up companies and fellow local entrepreneurs. With 16% revenue growth year-over-year thus far in 2023, the MoxCar momentum is palpable.

“We’ve always been known for our dedication to clients, ability to get results and high standard of quality,” Bird said. “Because each of the four partners has been with the agency for more than 15 years, none of that changes with a rebrand – it only refines and amplifies what makes MoxCar stand apart. Looking to the future, we are building upon our core services to leverage best practices; adapt with the ever-evolving media and communications landscape; capitalize on emerging trends and advancing technology; and maximize opportunities for clients to realize impact. In other words, our expertise in PR will always guide us, but we are prepared to pivot, stretch and grow how those principles are applied in a modern marketing mix to best serve our clients and drive their success.”
