Pilot Flying J recently opened a Flying J Travel Plaza in Cotulla, Texas, featuring full amenities for professional drivers and the second location of PJ Fresh Marketplace, the company’s new, fast casual dining concept.

As part of Pilot Flying J’s commitment to making life better for America’s drivers, PJ Fresh Marketplace delivers an expanded variety of fresh, fast meal options for drivers. The first PJ Fresh Marketplace opened in March at the Pilot Travel Center in St. Marys, Ga., and the company plans to open more locations across the U.S. in the coming months.

“We hope that professional drivers and motorists traveling through the Cotulla area will enjoy the convenience and amenities of our new Flying J Travel Plaza,” said Pilot Flying J CEO Jimmy Haslam. “Our new PJ Fresh Marketplace delivers more food options that are fresh, healthy and quick. Drivers will enjoy quality ‘grab-and-go’ choices as well as an opportunity to sit down, rest and enjoy a variety of hot, home-style meals.”

Located off Interstate 35 at exit 69 at 921 North I-35, the travel plaza offers professional drivers and Cotulla area residents many amenities, including:

  • eight diesel lanes and 12 gasoline lanes with high-speed pumps for quicker refueling;
  • everyday products for quick shopping needs;
  • a Subway;
  • premium coffee and cappuccino selections; and
  • PJ Fresh Marketplace serving hot, hearty meals; fresh tacos; breakfast platters; crisp salads; flavorful sandwiches; a frozen yogurt bar; pizza; hot dogs; and more.

The new facility is Pilot Flying J’s 40th in Texas and the 661st overall in North America. It is expected to contribute more than $2.7 million annually in state and local tax revenue.

“We invite drivers to visit our new travel plaza in Cotulla,” said Mike Fix, general manager for the Flying J Travel Plaza. “Our staff takes great pride in providing the quality service our guests deserve.”

PJ Fresh Marketplace is yet one more positive step in Pilot Flying J’s quest to make life better for America’s drivers. Pilot Flying J recently spent $50 million to update the company’s network of showers. In response to driver requests, upgrades include more hooks to hang and store personal items; better ventilation; softer, thicker, larger towels; and high-end, “spa-style” showerheads that provide ideal water pressure for a great shower experience. The renovation gives drivers a more comfortable place to refresh and relax before heading back on the road.

Pilot Flying J also now offers diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) at the pump at 3,400 fuel lanes across the U.S. to make refueling easier and more convenient for professional drivers. With an investment of more than $165 million, Pilot Flying J has the largest nationwide network of DEF at the pump and plans to make DEF at the pump available at all company diesel lanes by the fall of 2013.

As with all other Pilot Flying J locations, the Flying J Travel Plaza honors the MyRewards loyalty card, through which members can earn in-store retail and restaurant discounts.

The combined network of over 650 Pilot travel centers and Flying J travel plazas across North America serves more than 1.3 million customers daily.
