South College has hired James “Jim” McCoy to serve as president of the new campus in Orlando, Florida.
South College is a multi-campus institution, founded in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1882. The college offers 80-plus programs and concentrations taught at seven physical campuses and online.
“Jim has extensive experience as a leader in higher education and his approaches for team development, program offerings and student outcomes align with that of South College,” South College Chancellor Stephen A. South said. “I am pleased to welcome him to our team and to have him at the helm of our new campus in Orlando. South College offers programs in diverse fields with the purpose of helping both students and communities thrive. We look forward to serving Orlando and Central Florida.”
McCoy earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Lander University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Strayer University. He has worked in higher education for more than 35 years in director, dean and operations roles, with operational oversight for 20 successful new campus launches in the Southeast, including Florida.
“I believe that educators need to tune in to the education and skill needs of the local community, then build program offerings based on those needs,” McCoy said. “I am honored to join South College and help launch a new campus in Orlando. I am building a team based on trust, integrity and inclusion to serve the students, and we are focused on creating a high-quality learning experience that provides positive outcomes for our graduates. I appreciate the warm welcome from the Orlando community.”
The campus is located at 4901 Vineland Road, Suite 140, and currently offers ten programs with more to come, including Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Certificate in Practical Nursing; Associate of Science in Health Science; Associate of Science in Health Science (Pre-Nursing); Associate of Science in Health Science (Pre-Pharmacy); Bachelor of Science in Health Science; Bachelor of Science in Health Science (Pre-Physical Therapy); Bachelor of Science in Health Science (Pre-Physician Assistant); Associate of Science in Medical Assisting Advanced; and Certificate in Medical Assisting Specialist.
