Severinsen350The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra invites iconic trumpeter and former Tonight Show band leader Doc Severinsen to perform “Italian Style” with the orchestra for the Knoxville News Sentinel Pops Series. Doc conducts the Orchestra, guest vocalist Joseph Wolverton and accordion player Patrick Harison. The concert will take place on Saturday, April 13 at 8:00 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium.

The program features classic Italian folk songs like “O Sole Mio” and unforgettable themes by Verdi and Puccini. Musical selections also include Roman Carnival Overture, Rossini’s La Danza (Tarantella), Italian Medleys and the fourth movement from Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, the “Italian.”

Doc Severinsen – Grammy award winner and bandleader for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson for three decades, Doc Severinsen has made more than 30 albums–from big band to jazz-fusion to classical. In addition to his Big Band and San Miguel 5 appearances, Doc continues to perform with symphony orchestras all over the country and has been Principal Pops Conductor with the Phoenix Symphony, the Milwaukee Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony, the Pacific Symphony and the Buffalo Philharmonic.

Joseph Wolverton has performed with numerous orchestras including the Chicago, Indianapolis and Detroit symphonies and the Buffalo Philharmonic. His current and future engagements include roles as Roberto Miranda in Jonas Forsell’s Death and the Maiden with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Arizona Opera, and as Radames in Aida at the Royal Albert Hall in London. His concert repertoire includes Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Ninth Symphony, Berlioz’s Requiem, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony and Verdi’s Requiem.

Patrick Harison is an American button accordionist adept in a wide variety of settings. He has performed as a soloist with The Minnesota Orchestra, Florida Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Minnesota Opera Orchestra and other ensembles nationally. Patrick is also active in jazz and folk idioms performing regularly with groups from New York, New Orleans and Minneapolis.
