East Tennessee Children’s Hospital
A new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is under construction at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital thanks to a generous donation from the Haslam family. The 44-bed, private room NICU is part of a $75 million expansion project at Children’s Hospital.
“For nearly 80 years, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital has been providing excellent care for children and families in our region,” said Whitney Haslam Johnson, director of brand and customer experience for Pilot Flying J. “As part of the third generation of the Haslam family, we know what this NICU means to our community. We grew up going to this hospital, and we take our own children there. We feel honored to be able to partner with the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.”
“This gift is very meaningful for our family, but most importantly, we look forward to the impact it will have for many other families,” said Will Haslam, petroleum pricing analyst for Pilot Flying J. “This gift will ensure that children will continue to receive highly specialized care with lifesaving technology for years to come.”
The project includes making updates to existing space inside the hospital and expanding services for children with chronic conditions such as cystic fibrosis, diabetes and other special needs. The NICU will be inside a new five-story building, which will also include a new state-of-the-art surgery center, two levels of parking and enhanced family areas, such as a roof-top garden.
“We currently have an undersized NICU. The $2.5 million generous donation from the Haslam family will help us provide an even better experience for our patients and families, as well as anticipate emerging technology,” said Keith Goodwin, president and CEO of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. “As pediatric medicine and technology have changed, we are working hard to ensure we adapt and stay on the cutting-edge of health care. Our commitment to providing patients and families with excellent care is unwavering.”
Construction for the Children’s Hospital Expansion Project already has begun and is slated for completion in 2016.
